The Police Athletic League of Manatee County announces that the PAL Golf Classic will be hosted by Tropicana at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Bradenton, Florida on April 24, 2015.
The tournament will be a four-person scramble format, beginning with a shotgun start at noon. Entrance fees are $450 per person, and include brunch, gift bag, the 18-hole round at the Ritz, and a reception with buffet and drinks.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Other contests throughout the day will have cash prizes and more giveaways.
Proceeds benefit the children’s programs at Manatee PAL, which includes football, cheerleading, basketball and boxing. Since 1989, Manatee PAL has been providing quality children’s programs and services. Manatee PAL was established as a way to reach at-risk and low income youth. Mentoring children with sports programs teaches kids teamwork, responsibility, leadership and athletic skills. Additionally, each player is required to maintain passing grades in all subjects to play in games.
Last year over 1,000 youth throughout Manatee County benefitted from Manatee PAL’s programs, including cheerleading, roller hockey, football, basketball and summer camp. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Departments, along with local volunteers, provide leadership and mentoring for PAL members, helping them learn to make life-enhancing decisions free of drugs and gangs.
Manatee PAL is part of the state and national organization with a proven track record of helping kids. Manatee PAL’s mission is to bring law enforcement, kids and families together in a positive, safe environment through sports and academics to build a strong community. The motto is: helping kids succeed through sports, academics and police mentoring.
The annual PAL Golf Classic is a fundraiser that goes directly toward PAL programs. It is one of the ways that PAL keeps their registration fees affordable. This is the fifth consecutive year that is has been held. Sign-in begins at 10 am with a shotgun start at noon with foursomes playing 18 rounds of golf. There is a glass break contest, flop shot contest, putting contest as well as closest-to-the pin and bag o’ money contest.
Players have a continental breakfast and lunch on the course. Golfing begins at noon. Happy hour starts at 5:30 pm with the awards ceremony and buffet from 6:00 – 8pm. A raffle, silent auction and live auction complete the day.
“It is important for our youth to have the opportunity to not only compete in sports, but to be around other children and have PAL’s outstanding mentors, teachers, and coaches pass along their positive outlook on life,” says Bruce Bottorff, PAL Board President. “Everyone should have an opportunity to improve themselves, as long as they respect one another and work hard for it. I can personally attest to how well such opportunities have benefitted me throughout my career and personal life.”
